Have you ever wanted (or needed) to reach a specific part of your Facebook audience without bothering everyone else?
For example, maybe you want to run a special offer for people who live in New York but not in other states.
Or maybe you want to run a sales promotion for women but not for men.
Posting about these promotions to your Facebook Page can create frustration for the rest of your community that isn’t able to take advantage of the offer. That can lead to negative customer feedback.
But, what if I told you that you could post these kind of promotions JUST to the people you want to?
All you need to do is create an Unpublished Post and then turn it into a low-cost Facebook ad.
Wondering how to do this? Just follow the steps below!
Step 1: Log into Facebook’s Power Editor
The first step to creating your unpublished post is by logging into Facebook’s Power Editor.
You can access Power Editor by logging into your Facebook ads dashboard and then locating Power Editor in the left sidebar under Conversion Tracking.
(Note: You will need to install Power Editor in your browser by following these steps if you haven’t already.)
Step 2: Create a New Campaign and Ad
Once your Power Editor dashboard loads you will want to create a new campaign:
And then click over to the Ads tab (right next to Campaigns) and create a new ad.
You must give both your campaign and your ad a name, just like as if you were creating a new campaign in the regular Facebook ads manager (or AdEspresso).
Step 3: Create an Unpublished Post
Next, scroll down to the ad Creative area and select that you want to create an ad “For a Facebook Page using a Page post.”
And finally click “Create New Unpublished Post.”
Step 4: Set Up Your Unpublished Post
In this next step you want to set up your unpublished post.
You can choose whether you want to write a regular text status update, create a link post, a picture post or a video post.
Most likely you will want to create a Link post or a Photo post as these tend to generate the best engagement rates.
Once you select the post type you simply follow the prompts for putting together the post elements and then click “Create Post.”
Clicking “Create Post” does not automatically make it an ad. You still have the opportunity to preview the ad, set the targeting options and set your budget.
Step 5: Preview Your Post
Once you enter all of the content for your post and click Create Post you will see a preview of the ad pop up in the right hand corner of your screen:
If everything looks okay, you can go ahead and start setting your targeting options.
You do this in the same way you would normally set them in your Facebook ads dashboard (or AdEspresso).
Step 6: Upload Your New Post
Once all of your targeting parameters are set and you’re ready to submit this unpublished post for review as an ad you simply select the campaign name and hit Upload in the top right corner of your screen:
Once the campaign has been uploaded you will see it pending review in your normal Facebook ads dashboard.
As soon as the Facebook ads team reviews and approves the post it will begin running as a Facebook ad to the people that you selecting when you set the targeting options.
This post will NEVER show up on your Facebook page. It will simply show up in the Newsfeed of the people you set to target.
